Malam itu, langit di Cipinang Prumpung gelap pekat. Hanya ada beberapa bintang yang terlihat, seolah tertutup oleh kabut tipis yang melayang-layang di atas pemukiman padat. Sinar rembulan yang lemah menyorotkan sedikit cahaya ke atas penjara LP Cipinang, bangunan besar dan menyeramkan yang tampak lebih kelam di malam hari.

Arman berjalan pelan di sepanjang jalanan sempit yang membelah kampung. Tangan kanannya meraba-raba senter kecil di saku celana, tapi dia tak berani mengeluarkannya. Suara sepatu kanvasnya yang tipis berdecit di atas kerikil jalan yang basah. Malam itu terasa berat, dingin menusuk tulang, meski tidak ada hujan yang turun.

Sudah hampir jam dua pagi. Arman baru saja selesai bekerja di pabrik tahu dekat rumahnya. Sebagai buruh yang biasa lembur, ia sering pulang larut malam. Namun, malam ini ada sesuatu yang berbeda. Jalanan terasa lebih sepi dari biasanya, seolah semua orang tahu bahwa ada sesuatu yang sedang bersembunyi di balik kegelapan malam. Langkah-langkahnya terasa berat, seolah ada beban yang tak terlihat di pundaknya.

“Cepat sampai rumah,” pikir Arman, meneguhkan hatinya. Namun, setiap kali ia melangkah lebih cepat, angin malam bertiup semakin kencang, membawa suara aneh—seperti bisikan, atau lebih tepatnya, suara rintihan yang datang dari arah penjara tua itu.

Penjara Cipinang bukan hanya bangunan yang besar dan menyeramkan, tapi juga menyimpan berbagai kisah mistis yang diceritakan turun-temurun oleh warga sekitar. Banyak yang percaya bahwa tembok penjara itu menyimpan roh-roh gelisah dari para tahanan yang mati di dalamnya. Konon, mereka yang mati dengan tidak wajar seringkali menampakkan diri di malam-malam sepi seperti ini.

Arman mempercepat langkahnya saat melewati bagian tembok penjara yang terletak tepat di samping jalan. Tembok tinggi yang menjulang dengan kawat berduri di atasnya membuat suasana semakin mencekam. Di kejauhan, ia melihat bayangan gelap melintas cepat di atas tembok. Jantungnya berdegup kencang.

“Sial, hanya bayangan pohon,” gumam Arman sambil mengusap tengkuknya yang berkeringat meski udara dingin.

Tiba-tiba, terdengar suara dentingan pelan, seperti rantai yang ditarik di atas tanah. Arman terhenti seketika, napasnya tersendat. Telinganya menangkap suara itu semakin jelas, kali ini terdengar lebih dekat, seolah berasal dari balik tembok penjara.

Sontak, kakinya melangkah mundur. “Siapa di sana?” teriak Arman, meski dalam hatinya ia berharap tidak ada jawaban.

Tak ada balasan, hanya suara rantai yang terus bergema di antara keheningan malam. Arman mencoba menenangkan dirinya. Ia berpikir, mungkin itu hanya suara dari dalam penjara, mungkin ada tahanan yang sedang dipindahkan. Namun, detik berikutnya, bayangan hitam melompat ke atas tembok, dan untuk sepersekian detik, ia melihat sosok manusia yang terbelenggu rantai.

Arman terpaku. Sosok itu menggantung di atas tembok dengan tubuh yang lemas dan mata yang tak bersinar. Wajahnya pucat pasi, dengan luka sayatan panjang di pipi. Rantai yang melilit lehernya terlihat kaku, seperti baru saja digunakan untuk menjeratnya. Sosok itu bergerak pelan, seperti tertarik oleh sesuatu dari balik tembok.

Dalam kepanikan, Arman melangkah mundur, tapi kakinya tersandung batu besar dan ia jatuh terduduk di atas tanah. Senter di sakunya jatuh dan berguling-guling di tanah, menggelinding sampai ke tepi jalan.
