Dabei wird aufgedeckt, dass Dan insgesamt 10,2 Millionen Dollar unterschlagen hat. Nur durch Zufall wird die Polizei auf Dan Mahowny aufmerksam, der immer wieder Wetten bei Frank Perlin platziert. Dan spielt weiter und verliert natürlich, sodass er am Ende mit weiteren Schulden den Tisch verlässt.
Der spielt Nicky Santoro, einen der fiesesten, gemeinsten Mafia-Killer, den die Film�ge�schichte je gesehen hat. Stone überzeugt als geldgieriges Miststück, das im Grunde nur glücklich sein will, sich dabei aber größtenteils selbst im Weg steht und mit Vollgas auf den Abgrund zurast. Sein Zusammenspiel mit dem erneut außergewöhnlichen Joe Pesci („JFK“, „Lethal Weapon“) ist perfekt. Auch wenn Robert DeNiro seine Mafioso-Rolle nicht das erste Mal spielt, gibt er seinen Sam Rothstein dennoch mit überragender Präsenz und Ausdrucksfähigkeit.
